When two people meet intentionally in the presence of Divine Mystery, rich conversation, attentive listening, and reflective questions, help facilitate a deeper awareness of Divine presence— shared rituals such as poetry and silence, slow down the busyness of life, allowing a person to discern the work of Spirit.
As a psychologist, I’ve been privileged to listen to peoples’ stories, and offer support as they navigate life’s difficulties, joys and transitions. I enjoy my work, while remaining curious about how spirituality, or a connection to something larger than oneself, might be present in their lives.
Years ago, a friend encouraged me to connect with a spiritual director, and to participate in the Pacific Jubilee Soul Guiding program. I completed the two-year program in the Spring of 2025, and I continue to meet with my director. These experiences have been immeasurable gifts— illuminating, challenging, and transformative. They’ve deepened my understanding of myself, the Divine, and I’ve fallen further in love with silence. I’m now inspired to come alongside others as they navigate their spiritual journey.
While benefitting from a variety of faith traditions, I grew up in and continue to attend an affirming and inclusive United Church. In the words of Sufi mystic, Ibn Arabi (1165-1240): “I profess the religion of love. Wherever its caravan turns along the way, that is the belief, the faith I keep.”
Outside of work, I play and recharge in the vastness and beauty of the mountains. As an aging, “labrador retriever”, I’m learning to slow down and enjoy the rich smorgasbord offered through stillness, music, poetry, and meditation. I am deeply blessed by my wife, two adult sons, and wonderful friendships.
I offer spiritual accompaniment in Calgary and Canmore, in-person, or virtually, welcoming people of all genders, sexual orientations, and faith expressions.
The Second Music
Now I understand that there are two melodies playing,
one below the other, one easier to hear, the other
lower, steady, perhaps more faithful for being less heard
yet always present.
When all other things seem lively and real,
this one fades. Yet the notes of it
touch as gently as fingertips, as the sound
of the names laid over each child at birth.
I want to stay in that music with out striving or cover.
If the truth of our lives is what it is playing…
