Gathering Words for Winter VI

Online with Tim Scorer

Six Tuesdays: October 28 —December 2, 2025

6-8 pm Pacific Time

Yes, the season that is winter lies ahead. We are practiced at living winter competently and, sometimes, courageously. But what of this other cold and bleak season that has fallen on us: the slipperiness of authority, the fog of truth, the dimness of brave speaking, the icy grip of climate change. Whatever the winter of which we speak, poetry has the power to em-power us: to demand our attention to what is, to move us into the place where our hearts are enlivened without distraction, to inspire our intentions through plain-speaking in community.

That’s what we will be about on these six Tuesday evenings. We’ll follow the threads of six themes and see what poets show themselves as our guides for these wintry times that lie ahead. Let’s prepare to be surprised by the poetic instincts that rise in us when we take time to read poetry, share insights, and gather words for winter.

No previous participation in poetry groups is required.
Poems for each Tuesday evening will be sent out ahead of each session.

This event is offered through the partnership of Pacific Jubilee and Naramata Centre

Tim Scorer

Spiritual accompaniment is at the heart of Tim’s practice: with individuals, with spiritual companions and elders, with groups and faith communities, in contemplative retreats, and now with lovers of poetry. His grounding is through active engagement with five grandchildren, gardening on a hillside on Bowen Island, participation in the life of a faith community, and deepening into the loving 59-year partnership he enjoys with Donna.
