Kerr Mesner

Kerr Mesner completed the Pacific Jubilee SoulGuiding Program in 2019, and is a spiritual director, consultant, and facilitator. Kerr is also a queer/transgender contemplative Christian, an ordained minister with Metropolitan Community Churches, a performing artist, and an activist. Kerr has an MA in Theological Studies from Vancouver School of Theology, and a PhD in Education from the University of British Columbia. In his spare time, Kerr enjoys writing songs and playing in his garden.

Kerr understands spiritual direction as a practice of offering “set aside” time and space for focused reflection on one’s spiritual or contemplative path, with a trained companion who provides and holds space for this sacred work. Kerr is passionately committed to supporting people in all spiritual walks, whether or not those walks have a name or an “organized” framework.

Kerr brings deep commitments to anti-oppressive education and practices to this work. This includes commitments to challenging racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and other systems and structures that create barriers to justice-making. Kerr understand these commitments as lifelong processes of learning and growth, that very much inform the ways that Kerr works as a facilitator and the kind of community “container” that Kerr seeks to build.

Kerr’s particular area of focus in this work is in providing group spiritual direction through online spiritual companioning groups. Kerr currently offers one group for people from all contexts, as well as a group specifically for people working in academia. Both groups meet monthly online, and admit new members at specific times during the year; please email Kerr for more information. To read more about this work, visit heartstoryconsulting.com
