As a Spiritual Companion

My directee arrives breathless and a little late. As we make our tea, our conversation moves quickly from one topic to the next. I’m aware that we could talk like this for hours and that would be just fine but as we sit in our chairs and I light a candle, we enter a different kind of space. Our talking naturally slows down and there is more space and more silence. The physical space is the same, but the time has been transformed. The debris of daily life floats away and we enter the deeper waters of what’s true – what’s real – what wants to be heard, healed, and transformed. We trust there will be a shift or movement into something new. It’s a resounding yes to life as it is. It’s to be embraced by Holy Mystery, however you name it. It’s Presence and it’s Love.

And what do I bring to this conversation of holy listening? I bring spiritual practices of centering prayer, journaling, and silence. I bring an art practice of painting and printmaking, a passion for gardening,  gratitude for the apple orchards surrounding our home, and love for my husband who planted the trees. I bring experience parenting two adult children, leading contemplative retreats, teaching art classes, writing, and singing in a symphony choir.

I completed the Pacific Jubilee SoulGuiding program in 2015 and the SoulMentoring program in 2018. I have been a program mentor for SoulGuiding since 2020.

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it, and embrace them.” - Rumi
