Tending the Garden of the Soul: A Spring Silent Retreat

Tending the Garden of the Soul -

A Spring Silent Retreat

Sunday, May 7 - Thursday, May 11, 2023

With Jan Evans, Catharine Mitchell, and Kerry Wilson

Jericho House Retreat Centre, Near Port Colborne, Ontario

Join us in the peaceful environs of Jericho House, near the shore of Lake Erie. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and woodland, and steps away from the Trans-Canada Trail and the Wainfleet Wetlands, Jericho House provides a space of warm welcome for a spring silent retreat. Step away from the busyness of everyday life to tend the inner garden of your soul. Wander the woodlands, linger at the labyrinth, nourish your creativity, and find serenity within silence.

The retreat runs for five days and four nights: beginning May 7 at 4:00 pm and ending May 11 at 1:00 pm.

You are invited to join our community to begin and end each day with mindful movement and meditation. Spend time in the sun-filled gathering space to read, rest, or explore your creativity. Pack your folding chair and wander to the quarry lake to sketch, paint, or journal. Take a short walk to the beaches of Lake Erie, or take a few steps along the road to explore the Trans-Canada Trail. Spiritual direction sessions are available with Ontario Jubilee leaders.

Jan Evans

Jan transitioned into full-time spiritual direction and spiritual formation work after a fulfilling career in paediatric physiotherapy, and has served as a leader for the Ontario Jubilee Program for a number of years. She completed her spiritual direction training with SoulStream in Alberta, has an MA in Spiritual Formation, and has additional certificates in the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, Contemplative Retreat Leadership, and the Multidimensional Enneagram. While the Christian tradition is her home and first language, Jan enjoys companioning persons as they explore all avenues of their spirituality. Jan is passionate about the inner journey and contemplative living, trusting in its promise for the healing of humanity.

Catharine Mitchell

After being nourished by thirty years as an elementary school teacher, Catharine retired from her career in education to devote herself full-time to her study of the Sacred. She completed her spiritual direction training with Ontario Jubilee, and is a member of the leadership team. Catharine has spent many years studying the language of the Sacred known as Symbol - through the Arts (especially poetry and journaling), the understanding of Archetypes as patterns in our lives (particularly through dreams, archetypal astrology, and the Enneagram), and through the exploration of the deep relationship between Science/Nature and the Divine. She has a deep love for Celtic spirituality and the mystical connection with Place.

Kerry Wilson

Kerry is a passionate, ongoing student of the school of life. She was spiritually formed in the United Church as well as through the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, and has worked in education throughout her life. Kerry has many years of spiritual direction experience, and is a member of the Ontario Jubilee Leadership Team. She has a passion for directing the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, as well as training in the concepts of applied mindfulness, embodied spirituality, IFS, NVC, grief work, and the Work that Reconnects (Joanna Macy). Kerry is deeply committed to contemplative living and enjoys organic gardening and slow food, fibre arts, living towards zero waste, hiking, and folk music - all as part of life as a spiritual journey.
